By Gurbir Singh:
The ‘unruly’, ‘rogue’ Irish(?) family travelling in New Zealand that has made headlines across the world, may have left the country after being issued deportation orders.
They were caught dumping rubbish on Takapuna Beach, allegedly threatening to run over a witness, scamming restaurants and cafes by refusing to pay for their meals, and finally admitting to stealing also in a Hamilton court.
But one Kiwi (as New Zealanders are fondly known) has not allowed to let this opportunity pass without their usual wit.
Cashing on this publicity, a smart Tauranga-based online trader ‘julie208’ has jumped upon the bandwagon with her sale listing of a ‘Travelling hat’ on a New Zealand’s top online auction website.
Her sale listing on the auction website, TradeMe, calls upon the buyers to grab a ‘bunnings hat…found near Takapuna beach discarded…”
The attached description/photos have obvious, but indirect, reference to the young boy in that ‘rowdy’ family who was pictured wearing a similar hat. This boy was the centre of ‘attraction’ in photos/videos, gesturing his middle finger, and showering obscenities.
The TradeMe listing reads:
“Bunnings hat . Used condition. Found near Takapuna Beach discarded. Although this is a very attractive and stylish hat I can not be responsible for any obscenities that may flow from your mouth or rude hand gestures while wearing the hat. User beware. Not recommended for children even under adult supervision. This hat has no ants or hair in it. Could be useful if you decide to go travelling to see our beautiful country, perhaps see the Hobbits? One size fits all. There are no sunglasses or rope with this purchase. Similar to one shown”.
At the time of writing this report, the listing auction had already been viewed over 15,535 times. Twenty-nine bids have already been placed, and had reached its reserve. Next bid is at $187.
TradeMe members have been thoroughly enjoying asking questions, and some of the lighter veins are:
‘Julie208’ has herself been responding to some questions in a similar if not more jocular way.
With another 6 days to go before listing’s closure, the winning bid is expected to touch much higher. So, watch the space.
