Families thronged the Hamilton Airport (Helicorp) venue this (Sunday, 18 February) morning for the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter Open Day to show their support to the crew and watch live demonstrations.
It was a day of excitement for all age groups and families and friends to participate in this event to meet the rescue helicopter crew, have a close look of the rescue helicopter, and learn about the lifesaving work the crew do in the community.
There were live demonstrations from local EMS, and a live winch demo from the rescue helicopter crew. Interactive activities continued from 10am – 2pm, and entry was by a gold coin donation with all proceeds going towards supporting the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter. To satisfy the appetite of onlookers, there were food and ice-cream trucks.
Helicorp NZ also offered mini scenic flights around Mystery Creek to attendees at today’s Open Day. Attendees also had the opportunity to experience the thrill of a helicopter ride and take in the scenic views from above for a moderately-priced ticket – $95 for adults and $80 for children.
Founded in 1987, the Westpac Helicopter Rescue crew are ready to respond to any life-saving emergency rescue and cover the areas of the Waikato, Coromandel and the King Country.
Last year, the crew of Waikato Westpac Resue helicopter flew out on 832 missions that included inter-hospital transfers, medical missions, remote or rural incidents, road accidents, other rescue missions, etc.
They cannot do what they do without the support of our community by way of donations- so donate generously.
