A disgruntled Auckland farmer has taken a dig at the outgoing Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern by mowing one of his paddocks with a large cheeky goodbye message.
Rodney Ng, 40, used his 4ha vegetable farm as a message board to mow “The end of an Error’ message, with each letter about 40 metres in length. This green field is directly in the flight path to Auckland Airport.
His video, with upbeat music playing in the background, on social media has gone viral. His post has garnered several thousand likes and hundreds of comments, many of which are positive.
Ng used a GPS in the mapping out of the words and posted a video first on TikTok (@rodneyng2021) and several photographs on other social media pages, including Facebook showing Ng and his team mowing.
Ng who is a vegetable grower, provides produce to the local supermarkets.
According to Ng, it had taken three people about seven hours to mow the message.
Ng told Daily Mail he was motivated by the ‘immense pressure’ New Zealand’s farmers are under due from a ‘tsunami’ regulations introduced by Jacinda Ardern’s Labour government, including a ‘fart tax’ on carbon emissions from livestock.
“The fart tax is a hard one for beef and dairy but there are many,” he said.
“The mental health of many New Zealand farmers has been a big concern over the last few years,” he said.
The scheme – to reduce methane emissions by 10 per cent by 2030, had sparked an outrage from farmers as the livestock tax plan required farmers to pay for their greenhouse emissions.New Zealand plans to become carbon neutral by 2050.
One of the superimposed captions of the video read: “Hey Cindy, the farmers of NZ would like to wish you all the best!”
“The farmers of NZ would like to wish you all the best! We had our ups and downs. We don’t agree with a heck of a lot. But that’s water under the bridge. We can all celebrate now.
“I thought we’d all send you a message. You were one of a kind that’s for sure. I hope I’ve spelt it correctly,” the video states as it shows the final product of their labour.
