The atmosphere was absolutely electric at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts on the evening of Friday, 28 November where Haiming Jiang combined comedy and hypnosis to deliver a truly enjoyable experience.
As expected, the response to the non-stop 90-minutes spectacle of Comedy Hypnosis Show presented was amazing and full of positive energy. It was an evening filled with laughter as Jiang worked his hypnotic ‘magic’ on a group of susceptible audience volunteers called on the stage.

The show’s host blended traditional Chinese Qigong and modern hypnotic techniques to demonstrate the subconscious mind’s fascinating power, to turn volunteers into hilarious entertainers leaving audiences amazed.

Hamilton may have proved a bit of a challenge though for Jiang who has already given over 100 hypnosis shows in New Zealand and Australia. He started with 16 volunteers on the dais, and all were seemingly under Jiang’s spell within the first few minutes, except one who either didn’t want to be hypnotized or who was afraid of being hypnotised or had the attitude that they can’t be hypnotised!
As the show progressed, several others were found not susceptible or responsive enough to follow Jiang’s commands, and they were quietly ushered back to their seats gradually. But eventually, he had a core group through whom he showcased his distinctive fusion of traditional Chinese methods and modern hypnotic practices leaving audiences entertained.
Under his hypnotic spell, the volunteers performed varied comic acts, including two ‘speaking’ and ‘interpreting’ Mandarin; playing air guitar, making swimming moves; experiencing very hot or cold temperatures, etc.

There were several other hilarious moments that resulted in bursts of laughter from the audience. One hypnotised volunteer ‘experienced’ their arse on fire and only way to cool the burning sensation was to drag their bum on the floor. Then, there was the moment when volunteers on stage were made to realise they were sitting ‘naked’ before the audience and feeling ashamed, how they scrambled to cover their bodies. Subsequently, they appeared shocked watching the audience ‘naked’.

Before captivating audiences with his hypnotic magic, the Auckland-based Haiming Jiang worked as an IT engineer and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) expert. However, his curiosity about the human mind led him to explore Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnotherapy, transforming him into an entertainer performer.
He just concluded a four-month tour of Australia where he hosted more than 40 shows and his next scheduled show in New Zealand is at Wellington on 22 December.
For those who attended, Jiang’s show was an unforgettable experience that highlighted his fascinating power of hypnosis coupled with comedy.
