Hamilton has secured the New Zealand’s premier celebration of all things equine, Equifest for at least three years and the city event will be held in October 2026.
Previously hosted in Taupō, the three‑day festival is known for its dynamic blend of education, competition, shopping, and entertainment.
More than 16,000 people attended the festival in 2025, which featured almost 200 exhibitors and 466 horses.
Equifest is set to use the entire Claudelands Events Centre facility including the Oval, Arena, exhibition spaces, and the barn and stables for behind-the-scenes operations.
Hamilton City Council’s Deputy Chief Executive Sean Murray says securing the event is yet another win for the city and region.
“Multi‑day events are a big win for the city, bringing greater economic benefits through overnight stays and higher entertainment spending,” says Murray.
Hamilton Mayor Tim Macindoe said the decision reflects Hamilton’s growing reputation as a major events destination.
“Securing Equifest is a real vote of confidence in our city and highlights the strength of our facilities, our central location, and the passion our community has for major events.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Equifest to its new home at Claudelands Events Centre and look forward to thousands of visitors experiencing the energy and hospitality our city is known for.”
Equifest is set to use the entire Claudelands Events Centre facility including the Oval, Arena, exhibition spaces, and the barn and stables for behind-the-scenes operations.
“Claudelands Events Centre has the space, flexibility, and infrastructure to help Equifest grow. Hamilton’s central location in the heart of the Waikato and its rich equine roots make it a great option for riders, exhibitors, and spectators from across the country to attend,” said Murray.
