International travellers to India from an at-risk country, including New Zealand, will no longer need to quarantine for mandatory seven days or undertake an RT-PCR test on the eighth day.
Overseas arrivals will also not be tested at the airport upon arrival under the revised guidelines announced by India’s Ministry of Health and Family Measure yesterday, 10 February.
The new guidelines will come into effect from February 14 2022(00.01 Hrs IST), and can be read here.
From that day, travellers from overseas will have to self- monitor their health for a period of 14 days and report any Covid-19 like symptoms to the nearest health facility.
The government has also removed the demarcation of countries ‘at-risk’ and other countries.
Hitherto, those travelling from at-risk countries -that also included New Zealand, had to submit a negative Covid-19 report from 72 hours prior to travel, and needed to get tested on arrival and wait for the reports before leaving the airport.

Such international travellers were also required to remain in quarantine for seven days, get tested on the eighth, and upload the report to the government’s Air Suvidha portal.
According to the new guidelines, only 2% of randomly selected passengers will have to get tested, and they will be allowed to leave the airport without waiting for the reports,
Now all inbound overseas travellers, will have to upload on Air Suvidha portal i) self-declaration form, ii) a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report, or Certificate confirming they have received both vaccine doses, and iii) a declaration to authenticity of the report/documents submitted.
The option to provide a vaccination certificate is, however, only available for passengers arriving from 82 countries, including New Zealand and Australia, whose vaccination programmes are recognised by the Indian government as part of a reciprocal programme.
Children under five years of age are exempted from both pre- and post-arrival testing. However, if any passenger (including children under five)are found symptomatic for Covid on arrival they shall be isolated in a medical facility in accordance with health protocols.
