A new social investment trial by Government in partnership with Emerge Aotearoa, to support people with complex needs to secure stable housing in the city has been welcomed by Hamilton East MP, Ryan Hamilton.
This initiative is expected to bring much-needed support in helping residents facing housing instability transition out of emergency accommodation and into permanent, stable housing in the city.
“This new initiative will make a real difference for Hamilton,” says Ryan Hamilton.
“Stable housing is foundational to strong, connected communities. When individuals and families have a place to call home, it brings resilience, better health, and a stronger sense of community across the region.”
The two-year trial will assist single people and couples with no children who have been in emergency housing for over a year, offering tailored support services to address individual needs.
Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa (previously known as ‘Emerge Aotearoa’) may provide participants with essential support to help them move on from emergency housing. This could include healthcare, budgeting support, employment assistance, and tenancy management or helping them reconnect with family and community networks.
“This is more than just a housing solution. By focusing on skills and support services that promote independence, we’re building a future where Hamilton residents are better equipped to thrive in every area of life.
“This is a long-term investment in the people of Hamilton,” says Hamilton.
Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa – a charitable organisation, works closely with many community housing networks across the country to provide social housing in Auckland, Rotorua, Masterton, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill.
