A ultra-rare Woolworths Disney Flocked Bullseye Ooshie listed as ‘sold’ on eBay for a shocking amount of AU$100,000,019.15 on August 6 later turned up as a hoax.
The shocking fact was unravelled after the eBay seller Mark Hunter revealed all of the multi-million-dollar bids were fake. The winner ‘1***2’ lodged a cancellation immediately after cashing in on the success.
Hunter says he received a message from the buyer saying: “I apologise for the inconvenience of the troll bid.”
“I showed my workmates, and he jokingly placed the maximum bid prior to my knowledge.”
Hunter said. “All fake bids, some people have fun in strange ways,” he later wrote on social media.
The collectible tiny donkey was initially listed on eBay for $100, jumping to an $32,000 bid four days later before the auction quickly escalated.
On Monday bids appear to have been made from $949,889 all the way to $99,999,808.45 on Thursday, 06 August on the auction site.
Initially itself, the high bid amounts raised eyebrows on social media about the legitimacy of the bidder and whether fake bots were involved in the staggering sale.
On Reddit, Aussies raised suspicion when bidding reached $50 million. “Which Australian has $50 million and is also willing to spend this money on a Woolworths rare ooshie,” a sceptical user wrote.
The Flocked Bullseye, from the Toy Story franchise, is among the most sought‑after pieces in Woolworths’ new Disney Ooshies range. As in Australia only 125 of these tiny donkey are to be found in New Zealand.
According to reports, eBay responded to the farcical auction saying: “As a marketplace that enables trade in unique and collectable inventory, we don’t restrict bids on auction items.”
“If a bidder wants to receive an item, however, they will need to pay the amount that they have bid for it.”
“We have clear policies in place that restrict fake or shill bidding and consistently making bids that are not paid will see us take action on a users account. If the winning bidder fails to pay for an item, the seller does have the option to offer the same item to an underbidder.”
Woolworths Disney Ooshies collectibles promotion is clearly a huge success for the supermarket giant both in New Zealand and Australia as these have become a nationwide craze with children.
Spending over $30 in any Woolworths store entitles customers to free Ooshies and a chance of owning a rare collectible, but you don’t know what’s inside those little packages unless open.
Shoppers racing to complete their collections have are ending up with multiple Ooshies they don’t need, and are ending up on Marketplace for swaps/sale. The promotion ends on Sunday 23rd August 2026.
