Updated: The New Zealand Food Safety is supporting the recall of various products containing sesame seed (batch number: AAI/3890) imported from India due to possible presence of Salmonella.
Among the recalls are Sesame Seed Kernels White Hulled retail packs (sold in a 1kg plastic pack); White Sesame Seed (10g paper packet- & various sauces sold/delivered through My Food Bag between 6 July and 15 July 2024); White Sesame Seeds (sold in bulk food bin at Bare Refill Grocery, 401 Grey Street, Hamilton from 26/06/2024 to 19/07/2024) and Kiki brand Seed Cracker Mix Sea Salt and Kiki brand Seed Cracker Mix Chilli Cumin (300g & sold in plastic packet, with Best Before 22 Mar 2025).
NZ Food Safety is warning customers the affected products should not be consumed.
“Salmonellosis can be serious, so it’s important that people do not consume this product,” said New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle. “If you can’t return it to the place of purchase, you should throw it out.”
The affected sesame seeds are imported from India, and are sourced by Davis Trading Company Ltd., Auckland who on-sell to supermarkets and smaller retailers nationwide.
New Zealand Food Safety is in the process of working with the food business to trace the product and further recalls are a possibility.
There have been no reports of associated illness, however if you have consumed any of this product and have any concerns about your health, seek medical advice.
Customers should return the product to their retailer for a full refund.
