The Waikato Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Sports and Cultural Trust has been awarded the Hamilton Civic Award for “outstanding contribution in the category of health and wellbeing“.
The award was presented by Hamilton Mayor Tim Macindoe yesterday, Tuesday, 11 August 2026 at special ceremony held at the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion.
The Civic Awards celebrate groups and individuals who make a significant difference to Hamilton in health and wellbeing, arts and culture, sport and recreation, education, and community service.
The award was received by Jarnail Singh Rahon.
For the Waikato Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Sports and Cultural Trust, the recognition represents a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to serving the wider community in the areas of Hamilton and Waikato.
Founded with a strong focus on community connection, the Trust has worked to bring people together through a wide range of cultural, sporting, health and community initiatives. Its activities have included regular blood donation campaigns, cultural celebrations, environmental and tree-planting initiatives, community gatherings and events designed to promote inclusion, wellbeing and participation.
“This award is a great honour for all of us, but we see it as recognition of the entire community that has supported and contributed to the work of the Trust,” a Trust representative said. “We are extremely proud to receive this recognition and grateful to Hamilton City Council and the wider Hamilton community for acknowledging our efforts.”
The Trust views the honour as encouragement and motivation to continue serving the community and reiterates their commitment in promoting health and wellbeing ahead also.
Waikato Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Sports and Cultural Trust- based in Hamilton, actively promotes regular blood donation campaigns, organises local sports and cultural events, etc.
