A two-year-old female Chihuahua, named Pearl has been declared the world’s shortest dog living by the Guinness World Records on 9 April 2023.
Pearl measures just 12.7 cm (5 inches) in length – around the same size as a US dollar bill – and weighs 553 grams. Her height is 9.14 cm (3.59 inches), meaning she’s shorter than a popsicle stick.
Pearl was born on 1 September 2020 at Crystal Creek Animal Hospital in Orlando, Florida and weighed just 28 grams.
Pearl is a relative of the previous record holder, Miracle Milly (9.65 cm; 3.8 in), who passed away in 2020 before Pearl was born.
According to the Guinness World Records. Pearl was recently unveiled to the world in Milan, Italy, on the set of their TV talent show, Lo Show Dei Record.
Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler carried her onto the stage in a magnificent Easter egg-shaped seat, receiving rapturous applause.
Unlike usual Chihuahua, Pearl has a’ very calm temperament’ and was unfazed at being on stage in front of a huge live audience.
“We’re blessed to have her,” said Vanesa Semler, Pearl’s owner. “And to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share with the world this amazing news.”
Vanesa described Pearl as “small like a ball” and said she’s slightly taller than a teacup.
“We have lots of fun together,” she said, and according to her, the two years old, pocket-sized Pearl is still “a child at heart.”
She enjoys eating high-quality food like chicken and salmon, and she loves “dressing up nice.”
he name Chihuahua comes from the Mexican state of the same name, which borders Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico.
Chihuahuas are famous for being the smallest breed around, with Yorkshire Terriers coming in at a close second.
